That’s how technology review website ‘The Verge’ describes the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the first ever SUV from the iconic Italian maker.
And rightly so, for the range-topping Quadrifoglio model is powered by a mighty 510-horsepower Ferrari-inspired 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, with sistercompany Maserati’s Q4 all-wheel drive system distributing the power to all four wheels.
Said to be the fastest SUV in its class, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio will have an estimated 0–60mph time of 3.9 seconds – a blistering performance matched by supreme balance and handling, but the entry-level model will be no slouch either, with a 280hp 2.0-litre Turbo petrol engine and 8-speed automatic transmission.
Developed in Alfa Romeo’s Modena engineering centre, the Stelvio SUV will be made in the recently overhauled Cassino plant on a production line dedicated exclusively to the latest Alfa Romeo models. The first right hand drive versions are scheduled to arrive at T H WHITE’s Swindon Fiat Group Brand Centre later this year.
A hint of the performance and tenacious roadholding that can be expected from this stunning new Alfa is given in the name – Stelvio, the highest mountain pass in Italy (and the second highest in Europe), boasting a dizzyingly fast rise in altitude to 2,758 metres (9,048ft) in just over 12 miles, with 75 hairpin bends along the way!
All Stelvio models will feature gorgeous Italian styling and beautifully fitted interiors with the accent on sport, comfort and fl exibility for an active lifestyle.
Ferrari is adamant that it has no plans to build an SUV, but if it did you can bet that this is what it would look like. Following the 4C supercar and the Giulia sports saloon, this latest Alfa Romeo masterpiece will be hotly anticipated.
