We recently welcomed our new IT student, Dominic Steel, thanks to a collaboration with the Wiltshire Employment & Community Skills team.
Dominic expressed a strong interest in pursuing a career in IT and soon secured an interview for a placement in our IT department in Devizes. This team oversees hardware, software, cybersecurity, and technology training across our group, providing Dominic with an excellent opportunity to immerse himself in his area of interest.
The Wiltshire Employment Support Team (WEST) helped facilitate communication with our recruiting manager, Adam Robertson. With WEST’s support and Dominic’s disclosure of a disability, Adam was able to make adjustments to the hiring process, including interview support and advance questions, to help ensure Dominic could fully showcase his skills.
Dominic’s interview was a success, and he received a formal job offer just days later, beginning his placement with T H WHITE last month. He took part in our Induction Day, where he learned more about the history and vision of our Group and has quickly become an asset, assisting employees with IT needs – specifically focused on laptop and mobile replacement builds.
Now, just over a month into his role, Dominic is excelling. His performance has received positive feedback, and there are high expectations for his future. “Considering Dominic has only been here a month, he is doing incredibly well. Although he’s quiet at times, he’s observant and quick to learn, picking things up extremely fast,” notes Adam Robertson, IT Support Manager.
The partnership between T H WHITE and WEST continues to grow, reinforcing our commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities and promoting equality and inclusion. Together, we are working toward becoming a recognized Disability Confident employer.
Rob Wilson from the Wiltshire Council Employment Support Team shared his appreciation, saying, “T H WHITE is a fantastic company to work for, with great opportunities on the horizon.”
