Palfinger UK supports new Selco apprenticeship scheme

Palfinger UK were delighted to officially support the first ever induction day for recruits joining the brand-new HGV apprenticeship scheme developed and delivered by Builders Merchant group Selco in May 2018.
As part of efforts to increase intakes of fresh talent to the group, Selco’s new initiative will see 15 apprentices complete a 12-month training programme to become qualified HGV drivers for the business.
Director of Palfinger UK, Mark Rigby, is enthusiastic about the scheme, commenting, “the new apprenticeship programme from Selco demonstrates not only their commitment to growing the business but also commitment to their staff’s development and wellbeing.
Much like we do at Palfinger UK, which is part of the family-run T H WHITE group of businesses, Selco is offering apprentices the opportunity to join the Selco family, grow their skills and work towards a long-term career in the HGV industry. Inevitably this will not only benefit those apprentices but the organisation and the sector as a whole, and here at Palfinger UK we wholeheartedly advocate initiatives such as this to support our communities and our industry.”
Richard Evans, Head of Transport and Plant at Selco Trade Centres Ltd is looking forward to seeing the scheme develop and grow over the coming year, saying: “The successful apprentices have come through a rigorous selection process and now have the chance build a career with an ambitious and forward-thinking company while undertaking an extensive training programme in their chosen profession.
“We currently have over 200 commercial drivers working for us but the branch expansion programme we are undertaking means we are always looking to increase that number.
“This scheme also gives us the chance to work with the apprentices right from the start of their careers and allows us to build their understanding of what we are looking for from our HGV drivers.”
