The long wait for the all-new Alfa Romeo Giulia is over! The first cars arrived at T H WHITE’s Fiat Group Brand Centre at Hillmead, Swindon, in late November and are now ready for you to see and drive.
The new Alfa Romeo Giulia is a sensationally beautiful sporting saloon that seems certain to revolutionise this highly competitive sector, representing a convergence of engineering and emotion that has always characterised this famous, 106-year-old marque.
Four model variants are being imported to the UK with the rangetopping Giulia Quadrifoglio (four-leaf clover) being the most powerful roadgoing saloon ever made by Alfa Romeo. This 510hp missile is capable of reaching 62mph in 3.9 seconds from a standing start, continuing to a maximum of 191mph.
But the driving experience isn’t just about power – it’s a brilliant mix of technology and innovation. Its ideal 50:50 weight distribution creates optimal balance and showcases the advantage of a rear–wheel–drive system in a front-engined vehicle. By pairing rear– wheel drive with the Quadrifoglio’s front–mounted, all–aluminium 2.9-litre V6 bi-turbo engine, the Alfa Romeo engineering team was able to distribute weight perfectly throughout the chassis. Fast it is, but it’s also beautifully poised, sure-footed and enormous fun to drive.
Economy has been considered too – when you are driving in town one side of the engine can be shut down allowing the car to run on three of its six cylinders but still with the benefi t of one of the twin turbos. If you love the Italian style and panache but don’t need the power of the Quadrifoglio, there are three other entertaining engine variants to choose from, a 2.0- litre Turbo Petrol which delivers 200hp and two 2.2-litre Turbo Diesels – an entry level 150hp and a more potent 180hp version. Three trim styles are available at prices starting from just £29,180 for the Giulia 2.0 Turbo Petrol which packs 200hp. Like the rest of the range, it is turbocharged and is fitted as standard with an automatic ZF 8-Speed gearbox which delivers the power to the wheels with a blend of efficiency and economy that would be hard to match with a manual gearchange. Standard equipment includes six-way adjustable front seats, alloy wheels, DAB radio, start/ stop technology, rain and dusk sensors, alarm and remote central locking.
Step up to the ‘Super’ trim level – available with all three engines – and you gain an infotainment/navigation system with 8.8in screen and 17in 10-spoke alloy wheels. The ‘Speciale’ trim (only available with the 2.2-litre 180hp Turbo Diesel) adds a Sport Pack, 18in 5-hole dark finish alloy wheels, a Veloce luxury interior, electrically adjustable folding door mirrors, electrochromic rear view mirror and run-flat tyres.
